Role Overview
As a Data Scientist at Oando, you will be at the forefront of analyzing complex datasets and developing advanced analytics models and machine learning algorithms to support key business functions across our subsidiaries. Your insights will directly influence strategic decision-making and help drive the organization’s growth and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Predictive Modeling & Advanced Analytics:
- Develop and deploy machine learning models to address critical business challenges, such as predictive maintenance for equipment in the oil and gas industry.
- Design and run experiments to test hypotheses and enhance model accuracy.
- Leverage statistical techniques and machine learning frameworks to analyze large datasets and identify trends and patterns.
- Continuously improve model performance and scalability to meet business needs.
Data Analysis and Visualization:
- Analyze structured and unstructured data to provide actionable insights for different business units.
- Create impactful visualizations and dashboards using tools like PowerBI and Tableau to communicate complex results to non-technical stakeholders.
- Identify key trends and metrics to support decision-making across all business subsidiaries.
Automation and Operational Efficiency:
- Automate data collection, processing, and reporting to streamline operations and improve efficiency across departments.
- Work closely with data engineers to build efficient data pipelines that support the company’s analytics needs.
- Contribute to automating routine processes, reducing manual effort in daily operations.
Data Management and Governance:
- Adhere to data governance practices, ensuring data quality, security, and privacy compliance with regulations.
- Contribute to the development of data standards and best practices for data storage, access, and usage.
- Monitor data accuracy and ensure timely resolution of any inconsistencies.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with IT, business information coordinators, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage data for business growth.
- Ensure machine learning initiatives align with IT strategy and infrastructure.
Relationships and Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Assistant Manager, Solution Architect
- Key Responsibilities:
- Developing predictive models and machine learning algorithms.
- Analyzing large datasets to derive actionable insights.
- Collaborating with business units to support data-driven decision-making.
- Automating processes to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Model Accuracy: Maintain at least 85% accuracy in predictive models across key business units.
- Business Intelligence Utilization: Increase the adoption of BI tools by 20% within the first year.
- Automation Impact: Achieve a 15% reduction in manual reporting efforts through automation.
- Data Quality Compliance: Ensure 95% compliance with internal data accuracy and governance standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in data science, particularly in predictive modeling and machine learning.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for data analysis and model development.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Strong data visualization skills with tools like PowerBI, Tableau, or Matplotlib.
- Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a deep understanding of data-driven approaches.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience in the energy sector or working with large-scale IoT datasets is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and big data technologies.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
