UNICEF Vacancy : Climate Change Consultant (Remote, Abuja)


UNICEF is looking for a Climate Change Consultant to join its mission to support children in Nigeria, one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries. With projects like Green Rising, solarization of essential services, and climate adaptation initiatives in water, sanitation, health, and education, UNICEF Nigeria is committed to strengthening resilience against climate impacts and advocating for children’s rights in climate policy.

Role Overview

  • Position: Climate Change Consultant
  • Location: Remote, based in Abuja
  • Contract: Temporary Appointment (6 months)
  • Focus Area: WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

This role will guide and enhance UNICEF Nigeria’s climate change initiatives, coordinate multi-sector programs, and document key learnings across projects. The consultant will work on national policy processes like the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and National Adaptation Planning (NAP) framework, bridging UNICEF's work with national climate action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate UNICEF’s climate initiatives, such as the Green Rising project and WASH resilience programs.
  • Support cross-sectoral collaboration among UNICEF’s WASH, Health, Education, and Child Protection teams.
  • Lead workshops, document insights from UNICEF’s climate work, and analyze climate-poverty indicators.
  • Develop proposals for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to scale up climate action in Nigeria.

Requirements

  • Education: Advanced degree in a related field (Climate Change, Environment, Public Health, etc.); a Ph.D. is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in climate change or environmental policy work at national or sub-national levels.
  • Skills: Strong English language, analytical, and writing skills.
